The TAB could just about run a book on what the framed set of Black Caviar's colours will make at Sunday night's Racing For Christchurch Gala Dinner at Ellerslie.
The colours, carried by regular rider Luke Nolen for her Newmarket Handicap win at Flemington, have been signed by trainer Peter Moody and Nolen, and the frame includes a photograph of the win.
Under the spotlight of the adoration Black Caviar receives in Australia as the world's best racehorse, the price of such an auction item would be through the roof if put under the gavel across the Tasman. The Auckland Racing Club is hoping such will be the case here.
This magnificent piece has been made possible by Moody Racing (Australia), John White Bloodstock (Cambridge), Get Framed Framing & Art Studio (Cambridge), Larson Juhl (Auckland), Cambridge Glass (Cambridge) and Davy Engravers (Hamilton).
The Racing For Christchurch theme has continually gathered momentum since being proposed and there will be plenty of back-up to the Black Caviar colours.
Such as services to be auctioned to Zabeel, Starcraft, Pentire, Mastercraftsman, Rip Van Winkle, Darci Brahma, Keeper, Alamosa, Road to Rock, Perfectly Ready, Bachelor Duke, Postponed, Thewayyouare, Iffraaj, Captain Rio, Thorn Park, Towkay, Any Suggestion, Nom du Jeu, Fully Fledged, Coats Choice and Zed.
Also to be auctioned will be Jimmy Choux's racing plate and photograph from his win in the 2011 Telecom New Zealand Derby, donated by owners Richard and Liz Wood; and a framed pencil sketch of champion racehorse and broodmare Horlicks, donated by the de Gruchy family.
There is a framed painting of Carbine, painted and donated by equine artist Barbara Lewis; and a framed print of Bonecrusher and Waverley Star's famous 1986 Cox Plate, donated by Mr K.A. Feeney.
"We have been excited about this concept right through and we are particularly looking forward to Sunday night," said Auckland Racing Club chief executive Chris Weaver.
