The money has been pouring in for New Zealand hope Monaco Consul in the A$1.5 million Victoria Derby at Flemington tomorrow.
Melbourne bookmaker Alan Eskander said Monaco Consul had been all the rage this week, firming from $8 to $5.50.
"I can see more money coming for him," Eskander told Melbourne's Herald-Sun newspaper.
Star jockey Glen Boss has only increased the interest in Monaco Consul, saying the colt was the standout for him.
"If I had a choice, he'd be the one that I would want to be on," Boss said, as he differed from many experts who expect Shamoline Warrior and Rockferry, a brother to champion New Zealand galloper Xcellent, trained by Mike Moroney, to fight out the finish.
Monaco Consul will be ridden by Corey Brown. He has drawn barrier one, while fellow Matamata galloper Our Heir Apparent drew out at 10 in the 11-horse field.
Trainer Mark Walker is pleased with Our Heir Apparent heading into the Derby, though the Zabeel colt's inexperience is a concern.
He ran greenly at Geelong last week and it probably cost him victory as Southern Skye caught him late.
"It was a very good run. He is still very new to it all, but is learning with each run," he said.
"I think it is a great benefit that Craig Williams was on him last start and he would have learnt a fair bit about the horse from that."
"He is probably six months away from maturing up a bit, but we are in the field and going to have a good crack at it."
Shamoline Warrior was a $3 favourite on the New Zealand TAB yesterday, ahead of Rockferry on $4.50, Monaco Consul on $5 and Our Heir Apparent on $9.
Melbourne TAB market: $3 Shamoline Warrior, $4.80 Rockferry, $5 Monaco Consul, $11 Viking Legend, $12 Onemorenomore, $13 Extra Zero, $14 Southern Skye, $15 Our Heir Apparent, $17 Gathering, $101 Commonage Close, $201 Prinsom.
