KEY POINTS:
Ken Barron is hoping the speed so evident on New Zealand Cup day flows through to Ashburton today.
Two national records were set at Addington on Tuesday, with Flashing Red rewriting the record books in the New Zealand Cup and Nick Off Holme setting a new 1950m mark. So Canterbury trainer Barron is hoping some similar tactics in the Sires' Stakes Silver can help his charge Georgetown to win.
The mile is for 3-year-olds who contested heats but didn't qualify for Tuesday's $200,000 Sires' Stakes Final and Georgetown was so impressive when a last-start fourth in his heat he must rate a leading chance today.
But Barron's biggest concern is the wide draw on the front line, made worse by speedster Absolute Magic drawing the ace with Themightyquinn on his back.
"I am very happy with my horse but it does worry me having two good horses drawn to lead inside me.
"It can be very hard to beat those type of horses over a mile when they get a better run."
Barron says his best chance would be some early speed off the front line to bring Georgetown's strength into play.
"He is very strong and if they burn off the gate then I think we can come around later and be hard to beat.
Goldie Blue, for New Zealand Cup winning trainers Tim Butt and Phil Anderson, also has a good chance.
The meeting hosts a $75,000 Pick6.
