KEY POINTS:
As if the injury and late scratching of Caulfield Cup favourite Maldivian was not enough, Flemington trainer Mark Kavanagh had another problem at Caulfield on Saturday.
With the suspension of Hong Kong-based Sydney jockey Glen Boss, he will have to sift through a lengthy list of applicants for the job of riding Devil Moon in next Saturday's Cox Plate.
Boss had been pencilled in after the suspension last week of Corey Brown, who won the Turnbull Stakes on the mare this month.
Boss was banned for 13 meetings after his ride on Caulfield Cup third placegetter Princess Coup, who caused severe interference to Black Tom and Tawqeet.
Meanwhile, Matamata and Flemington trainer Mike Moroney has given the all-clear for his casualty from the Caulfield Cup, Eskimo Queen.
The mare, who was second favourite behind Maldivian, became agitated in the barrier when Maldivian began playing up.
Eskimo Queen became stuck under the stalls and had to be withdrawn as a precaution.
Moroney will consider the Cox Plate for the mare but is more likely to focus on the Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday week.
Also on the casualty list after the 2400m feature is Maybe Better, who was the equal Melbourne Cup favourite. .
Trainer Brian Mayfield-Smith said the gelding had soreness in a leg joint yesterday, but he expected the problem to clear up and will continue with his Cup preparation.
