KEY POINTS:
LONDON - Epsom Derby winner Authorized, partnered by Frankie Dettori, was beaten into second place by 7-1 chance Notnowcato in the Group One Eclipse Stakes at Sandown yesterday.
Ridden with enterprise by champion jockey Ryan Moore, Notnowcato raced alone on the stands side and had a length and a half to spare over Authorized, the 4-7 favourite, racing on the far side of the track.
George Washington, the 4-1 second favourite trained in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Seamus Heffernan, finished third of the eight runners, a head behind Authorized.
Last month amid emotional scenes Authorized gave Dettori his first Epsom Derby win at his 15th attempt, but the jockey was in more philosophical mood after yesterday's loss.
"The horse thinks he's won. They split into three [groups] and it's always difficult when everyone's trying to beat you. You can't follow everybody - I made my decision to stay with George Washington."
