Racing: Atom Angel works soundly for Otaki assignment

Atom Angel looked ready for Otaki when she turned in a sound final trial at Matamata yesterday.

Out 25 metres on a heavy course proper, Atom Angel strode over the last 1200m of her work in 1:28.8, the final 600m in 41.5.

Kapsdan, the obvious favourite for the juvenile event at Ellerslie, was let off with an easy 600m in company with Tight Genes in 43.8.

Brave Indian and Lady Looter worked in good style over 1000m in 1:05.8, the final 600 in 38.2. Calvine looked the part when she led Lutaana to the finish of 1000m in 1:10.2, the final 600 in 40.6.

On the sand, which was firm, Deuce Bigalow showed his fitness for Ellerslie with 1000m in 1:09, the last 600 in a smart 38.8. Pride of the Class prepared for Otaki with 1000m in 1:08, the final 600 in 38.6, while Walsberg's Dream who runs at Te Aroha next week, returned 1:08 and 40.5.

Identity took 1:06.5 for 1000m, the 600 in 39.5. Get Up wasted no time over 1000m in 1:03.8, the last 600 in 39.

Otaki runner Electrico took 1:26 for 1200m, the 600 in 39.2, while Mohawk covered the same ground in 1:23 and 41.2 and Hedkandi took 1:23.6 and 39.8.

On the all-weather track, Brave Admiral rounded off his Otaki preparation with 1000m in 1:06.2, the final 600 in 38.8. Heza Chance was impressive over 1000m in 1:03.7, the last 600 with Tetchie in 37.2.

Haleighs showed her fitness with 1000m in 1:07, the last 600 in 40.2.

A smart 600m by Let's Enjoy at Takanini suggested she would be hard to beat in her debut at Ellerslie.

On the inside of a soft No 1 grass, the Kerry Verner-trained filly recorded 37.9.

Dragon Tiger went freely over 1000m in 1:5.6, the last 600 in 39.

Tantalic completed his Mitchelson Cup preparation with 1200m in 1:25.9, the last 600 in 39.6.

Molly Brown was not asked for her best over 600m in 41.4, and rival Whoc was given an easier 600, taking 45.8. They could provide the quinella in race 10.

Bewitched led Montreal Gold after 1200m in 1:27.1, the last 600 in 41.2, but the latter, a Guineas favourite, improved on her effort on Tuesday.

Likely Story and Eclipse The Sun covered the last 1200m of 1600 in 1:23.6 and 600 in 40.8.

At Pukekohe, Millnorm went past the 1000m in 1.07 and completed the 600m in 39.3 on a heavy No 1 course.

Vermont passed the 1000m in 1.08 and finished the 600m in 40.2.

Explode Away covered the 800m in 52.6 and completed the 600m in 39.

At Avondale, Sweet Dancer recorded a solid final trial for the Mitchelson Cup.

On the outside of the course proper Sweet Dancer worked quietly over two rounds finishing with a 600m sprint in 38.5.

Bensheim was in excellent form when running 1000m on the sand with stablemate Bless. They returned 1:6.8 coming home smartly the last 600 in 37.6.

Paulannik looked keen running 800m in 51.2 with the final 600m in 38.2. She is progressing well towards a return to racing.

Rapitaine was set a similar task clocking 53.6 for 800m completing the last section under a hold in 39.9.

Running 800m on the sand Sweet Dreams finished on even terms with a Casual Lies gelding in 51.6 and took 39.1 from the 600.

Shelley Browne cleared three hurdle fences in good style before running 800m on the grass in 51.3 stretching out nicely over the final 600 in 38.2.

Caravaggio and Governare were in good form at Te Awamutu.

In the middle of a soft No1 grass, Caravaggio and Governare handled the ground well, covering 1000m in 1:4.9, the 600 in 38.

Sir Avion worked two rounds, running his last 600 in 43.3.

Miss Rose Sapphire and Mister Eight were going their best work over the final 400 when running 600 in 41, the last 400 in 25.6.

On the sand, Okiwi Bay finished off two rounds with a 1000 in 1:3.2, the last 600 in 38.

Simply The Best looks set for a bold showing at Otaki after encouraging work at Cambridge.

Galloping 10m out on a heavy No 2 grass, Simply The Best strode nicely over 800m in 54, the final 600 in 40.5. Guineas candidate Bridie Belle travelled well throughout 600m in 41.6.

Race rivals Shreigns and Ensuave finished together after an impressive 600m in 39. Jay Dee's Sunset did 600m in 40.7, Ialana clocking 38.7, the quickest for the session.

Sadie Belle showed she has thrived when working soundly at Te Rapa.

On a wet sand, Sadie Belle, galloped 1000m in 1:08.3, the final 600m in 38.1.

Sparkling Hi finished his work with 600m in 40.5.

On a very heavy No 3 grass, Sacy Girl went 1200m in 1:24.7, the last 600m in 42.1.
