KEY POINTS:
The combined Taranaki racing clubs will hold New Zealand's first "apprentice only" raceday at Hawera tomorrow.
The Taranaki, Egmont and Opunake clubs are adopting a cycling theme for the day, with the leader in the "Tour de Taranaki" wearing a yellow jersey from races two to eight.
Taranaki Racing Club chief Carey Hobbs said Trackside television would notify before each race who would be wearing the yellow jersey.
The clubs hoped to have the cream of New Zealand's young riders competing, while fully licensed jockeys get the chance for a day off to attend the Karaka sales.
Prizemoney of $2000 is on the line, with $1500 going to the top apprentice.
