The Group One A$500,000 Brisbane Cup is now on the agenda for Anne Carina following her game win in the $15,000 Leopard Hotel Waipukurau Cup (2500m) at Hastings yesterday.
Te Awamutu trainer Graeme Sanders, who prepares the Danske mare in partnership with his daughter Debbie, said the whole intention of running the horse yesterday was to see if she could stay the 3200m of the Brisbane Cup.
"I think she did enough to warrant going to Queensland and, even if she doesn't run in the Brisbane Cup, there are plenty of other good races over there including the Caloundra Cup," Sanders said after yesterday's win.
"She is a real staying type," said Sanders. "Not very big but a great trier."
It was Anne Carina's third win from 15 starts.
