The Black Caviar show might have taken much of the attention away from the AJC Australian Derby on Saturday but the champion mare's trainer is one with much at stake in the prestigious classic.
Peter Moody has some unfinished business in the 2400m staying test at Randwick. Anacheeva will be out to add to Moody's Derby record when he takes on Jimmy Choux, who created a huge impression with his Rosehill Guineas win.
"This Derby is the only one I haven't won," Moody said.
"I've won the Victorian Derby, Queensland Derby, South Australian Derby and West Australian Derby."
Moody-trained horses have come close, with Testafiable third to Headturner before winning the 2006 South Australian Derby and Ambitious General second to Fiumicino the following year.
Anacheeva ran seventh to Jimmy Choux in the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Moody believes the extra 400m will suit. "Anacheeva is out of a Zabeel mare and like all of the Zabeel stock he has lacked maturity," said Moody.
"But they continually get better and I think he has."
