MELBOURNE - Legendary trainer Bart Cummings remains in hospital being treated for a respiratory condition but is expected to attend Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.
Cummings' son Anthony visited his father yesterday and said the 82-year-old was in good spirits.
"Basically, he's fine, he's under treatment for a respiratory condition," said Cummings yesterday.
"He will probably come out over the weekend. He won't be at the races on Saturday but he expects to be there on Tuesday."
Cummings was taken to Melbourne's Epworth Hospital on Wednesday night. It is the third time this year he has been hospitalised.
He spent some weeks in Sydney's St Vincents Hospital with pneumonia earlier this year and missed his first autumn carnival in five decades.
More recently, the Hall of Fame trainer was hospitalised after fracturing his pelvis in a fall at his home at the end of August.
The trainer of 12 Melbourne Cup winners, Cummings has four horses still in the mix for this year's race including second favourite So You Think.
