You might have to wait until late in the programme for the bet of the day at Ruakaka this afternoon.
Haylee Baylee (No2, R11) has not previously raced at Ruakaka and that can sometimes be a concern, but if she goes close to handling the conditions she should come away with the money.
Bad luck dogged her when she was beaten favourite behind Devonport Lad at Te Rapa last start. She was late getting into clear racing space and looked no hope of making the first three with 120m to run. She literally flew the final few strides to grab second and left little doubt she would have won with a decent passage. Michael Coleman knows her very well and has stayed with the camp. Vamperalla (No6) might do better here than on the heavy stuff at Avondale last start when beaten joint favourite behind Shanamann.
Noble Singa (No3, R2) looks like a stayer who can win another one. He made ground nicely into second at Avondale last time when having his first race beyond 1600m and should have learned something from the experience. The wide draw looks bad on paper, but he drops back early anyway and Lisa Cropp should still be able to find him a decent passage. Rapitaine (No1) and Dicktator (No4) are definite trifecta chances.
Stravar (No4, R3) was beaten favourite in heavy footing on his home track at Matamata last start, but the time before he was narrowly beaten on this course. He is definitely worth another chance.
Hi Yo Wassup (No4, R4) has been beaten only once in four career starts when fresh from a break and she has not raced since April. Like most Al Akbars she has good form in soft ground and the 3kg Chad Ormsby will take off her back could be the winning of the race. Anzaway (No7) has been freshened since putting in a below-par effort at Ellerslie. His previous form was excellent and he could be value on the tote. Watch Pin Up Boy (No6).
That was no fluke win that Sardonyx (No12, R6) scored at Ruakaka last start. She is not really a 1200m type, but flew late to just get the money and although up in class she will be better suited by today's 1400m.
Put up $50,000 and you deserve a good field and the club has a beauty in the $50,000 Oceanz Seafood Breeders Cup. Ellerslie winners Twinkling (No2, R8) and Im Insatiable (No5) will take beating, but there are a handful that will be chipping at their heels. Donna Rosita (No3) and Boudi Woudi (No9) will be among them. Box the four in multiples and you're in with a live hope.
Marea (No9, R10) was not the only favourite that performed below expectations at Avondale on July 2 and it might pay to forgive her that failure. Be guided here by that fabulous effort at Te Rapa the time before when she should have won by lengths. At 51.5kg, Sir Kinloch (No2) is at a ridiculous level in the weights for a group one winner. At that you have to include him in all bets.* As a result of the Wellington meeting being cancelled, the Pick6 transfers to Whangarei and will be on races 6-11 with a guaranteed first division of $150,000.
