There is good news and bad news for punters chasing tonight's huge Pick6 at Alexandra Park.
The good news is it is guaranteed to reach $300,000 after it was only partially struck last Friday, leaving more than $160,000 of dead money in the pool.
The bad news is it looks even tougher than last Friday. In what is a rarity for an Alexandra Park meeting, the Pick6 contains few, if any, anchors and most legs look to have at least four or five main chances.
That means percentage betting could be the way to go, with the best anchor hope being Caesar Court in race nine.
If you take the "must haves" below and anchor Caesar Court it will cost you $45 for a 25 per cent ticket.
FIRST LEG, 8.01PM
Tricky leg to start but at least as the heats were run last Friday the form should be consistent.
Another Impact (6), Turismo (12) and Major Day (13) won their heats so well they have to be in. The best beaten run came from Protocol (5), who got trapped behind inferior runners and stormed home. He could even lead tonight so is a must.
Verdict: Need to have the heat winners and Protocol so 5-6-12-13. Upsetters are 10-14.
LEG TWO, 8.37PM
Not easy but best two trotters in the race are Alien Waits (12) and Desert Blaze (11), who galloped last Friday.
Sunny's Bar (5) has been honest and comes in well, while Roxie Heart (9) and Illuminati (7) both have chances. Milldorf (2) and Chas Luney (1) best of the rest.
Verdict: It's trotters and junior drivers so go as wide as your budget allows. But you have to have 5-7-9-11-12.
LEG THREE, 9.07PM
Great, just when you thought it was hard enough we have a claiming race.
Shades Of Success (7) and Carlos (6) have won claimers well recently so are must haves, while Wee Willam (10) is consistent and could be suited by a decent pace here.
George Skipper (4) could be the early leader, while Just Wicked (8) has one sharp sprint.
Verdict: David Butcher has the pick of a lot of drives here and went for Carlos. So the 6 is a must, along with the 7 and 10.
LEG FOUR, 9.37PM
Handicap paces are always tough but the scratchings aid the backmarkers.
Stablemates Will Carter (11) and Chesterton (12) have raced well in better fields lately and can both make flyers from a stand.
Cullens Crown (10) was outsprinted last Friday but looks better placed here, while Dead Calm (2) will be on the front end and hard to catch. Kotare Ash (6) is up against the boys and having her first stand so may be worth risking.
Verdict: 10-11-12 are musts. If you have the money add the 2.
LEG FIVE, 10.07PM
Caesar Court (4) is no certainty but may be the best anchor. Getting better all the time and lost momentum at the top of the straight last week.
Cruzee Cullen (5) was better last start but this is tougher. You could make cases for the 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 15 but we can't take them all.
Verdict: Anchor 4 for most of your Pick6 spend. Take a saver with 5 and 15.
LEG SIX, 10.37PM
Maiden trot so manners the key, but the stablemates Kingdom Of Heaven (5) and Denny H (15) stand out.
Kingdom Of Heaven has gone two huge races so far and is way better than maiden grade. But Denny H is top pick after beating Oto Invasion last start after giving him 20m start and wasn't re-handicapped because of 3-year-old concessions.
Outside of them, Flex (8), Carmen Electra (7) and Me An Kel (9) are all good enough to win if the favourites make mistakes, while the miracle blowout hope is Duchenne (14).
Verdict: We went wide early so we have to cut back: 5-15 musts, with 8-9-14 chances if you have plenty to spend.
Racing: $300k will be tough to win
