KEY POINTS:
Holden's Garth Tander came back from the dead in an incredible final race to win the Surfers Paradise round of the V8 Supercar championship yesterday.
Series leader Jamie Whincup looked certain to win but he dramatically spun out with three laps to go and had to retire.
Tander had won races one and two and was sitting second in race three when he received a drive-through penalty for making contact with New Zealand driver Greg Murphy's car exiting pit lane.
He plummeted to 23rd but put in an aggressive drive over the second half of the 27-lap sprint to finish eighth and claim his third round win of the year.
Dick Johnson Racing's Steven Richards won the race but it was almost a side issue. Tander now has 58 points, with Ford veteran Russell Ingall second on 49 and Jason Richards third on 40.
