KEY POINTS:
There was some early drama at the Bathurst 1000 today as Dick Johnson Racing team driver Steven Johnson crashed in final practice, causing considerable damage to his car.
Johnson, who was the fastest man in Thursday's practice session, lost control at the cutting, hit the wall and ripped the front, right tyre out.
The good news for DJR is the car was expected to be repaired in time for this afternoon's top ten shootout qualifying session.
"I'm fine, I've had bigger hits than that in my life," Johnson said.
"The damage isn't too bad, the team shouldn't take too long to get it fixed.
"It'll be fine for this afternoon."
The V8 Supercar championship-leading Holden of Garth Tander and Rick Kelly was quickest in the session, clocking two minutes, 07.09 seconds.
