KEY POINTS:
Wahid was yesterday given 54.5kg in the $270,000 Couplands Bakeries Mile and tomorrow's $25,000 Tip Top Penang Turf Club 1400 at Ellerslie will tell you what chance he has of winning the big one.
The Derby winner of two seasons ago has had only one start back from a lengthy break and did well for fifth to Dezigna in an extremely fast 1400m race at Hastings.
For his second appearance before heading to the big Christchurch event Wahid has struck a field that is surprisingly strong.
But if he is to be a chance to win his main aim at Riccarton he will need to go very close tomorrow.
The likes of Rosetti Bay, Fiscal Madness, Charliehorse and Zerello are there to make life difficult for him.
Fiscal Madness and Charliehorse have great records fresh from spells and also at the 1400m distance.
Charliehorse is unbeaten in two fresh starts and also at two attempts at the distance and Fiscal Madness has four wins and two placings from seven 1400m outings and has won three of his five career fresh races.
Both are high class horses well capable of winning this.
Although beaten two lengths into third, Rosetti Bay's stakes performance against the fillies and mares at Hawera last start was sound.
She is a quality mare with a good finish who is up to a race like this, despite the depth of the field.
Zerello looked a quick improver when she wilted late after leading up at Hastings when resuming from a winter spell.
She had to be checked when she had her legs taken inside the final 100m, so to finish only three lengths from Irlanda was a sound performance.
