KEY POINTS:
Trainer Wayne Hillis and rider Vinny Colgan are at a complete loss to understand the poor showing by New Zealand galloper Dezigna in Sunday night's S$3 million ($2.7 million) Singapore International Cup.
Dezigna finished 11th, just missing the S$30,000 payment back to the 10th runner and Colgan said he was never confident of finishing closer after the first 200m.
"He travelled up okay the first couple of hundred metres then started to struggle.
"The track was a bit off, but that didn't beat him, he was never travelling well and that's not like him."
Hillis went into the race extremely happy with the way Dezigna had arrived in Singapore and trained on.
"Wayne was really excited about the race," said Colgan. "The crowd before the race was quite rowdy and he didn't seem to cope with everything. He never switched on."
The cup was won by one of the two Japanese runners, Shadow Gate.
