KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - Gai Waterhouse will become Australia's group one trainer for the season if Desert War performs as expected in tomorrow's Doomben Cup.
The 6-year-old is the overwhelming favourite to win his fourth group one for 2006-07 and bring Waterhouse's tally to 12, one more than David Hayes.
Waterhouse has a strong team in Queensland for the winter carnival while most of the Hayes stars are resting in preparation for the spring.
Desert War was beaten in the group two Hollindale Stakes last start when he missed the jump and was unable to take up his customary role in front.
Coalesce and Dracs Back, who finished one-two in the Hollindale, will be among Desert War's opposition this time but the biggest threat is expected to be 3-year-old Reigning To Win.
TAB Sportsbet has Desert War at $2.40 with Reigning To Win at $3.20 ahead of Dracs Back at $6 and Coalesce at $13.
