But after six staples and four days of hand-walking, the highly rated 3-year-old is back on track to emulate the feat of his 2000 Guineas-winning three-quarter brother Darci Brahma on November 5.
"Thankfully, there has been no complication and the laceration has healed up beautifully and he hasn't missed a beat since," said Bridgman.
"He's trained on really well from his first start.
"He was only a 50-50 chance to make the Guineas anyway; at this stage of his preparation the softer option was always going to be better for him."
James McDonald warms the saddle for regular rider Matthew Cameron in the R70 apprentice riders' event over 1400m today.
Safely through that, Burgundy's road to the Guineas continues from Te Akau's Rangiora base in the Canterbury Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton on October 23.
"I have faith in him that he's a quality animal but he's only new to the game," said Bridgman.
"I'd like to see him relax a bit better in the running [at Taupo]; we've certainly been trying to teach him that in his work.
"He's doing everything on exuberance and ability up until now and it's just been so easy for him he gets up and travelling a bit too keenly on the bridle.
"Hopefully, after a race or two he'll start to drop the bit; he'll need to if he's going to run 1600m out properly."
TAB bookies posted Burgundy a $7 early fixed-odds chance for the Guineas yesterday and Anabandana the $5 favourite.
Meanwhile, Bridgman is also looking forward to Polarity's return to Taupo today, after his five-length maiden win there last month.
"The penny's dropped since that win; he's really been switched on to his work since then," he said.
Stablemates Academy Royale (race two), Power Climber (race three) and Fiscal Wings (race eight) are also rated solid each-way chances at Taupo.
Bridgman said punters should forget Academy Royale was even entered at Tauranga last Thursday.
The saddle slipped after the horse jumped awkwardly from the starting gates and Cameron had no option but to pull him up.
"He's taken no harm from that; it was like he didn't have a race," said Bridgman.
"I know he steps up from 1400m [at New Plymouth] to 1800m, but I don't think that's a query.
"He runs well at Taupo and the dead track will be perfect for him.
"We expect him to show something."
It should be a good day for last season's top jockey, James McDonald, who rides several short-priced favourites on the card.
It will be a major shock if he does not kick off on a winning note with Banchee in the rating 90 Taupo Times over 1400m.
The former group one winner is several classes above her rivals and John Sargent will be a looking for a good effort before the Coupland's Bakeries Mile at Riccarton on November 9.
McDonald is also aboard the beautifully bred Papilio, by Redoute's Choice from Lafleur, a winner here last month, in the seventh event.
The day should finish well for the apprentice aboard Moirai, who chased Antonio Lombardo home in listed company at Ruakaka. The Shaune Ritchie-trained filly holds nominations for the 1000 Guineas at Riccarton and later the Levin Classic at Otaki on November 25.
A Taupo maiden over 1400m should hold few fears, despite drawing in the car park.
