Kenyan long distance runner Edwin Rotich shrugged off a mid-race attacker before claiming victory in the 10km Kings Race in the Brazilian city of Cuiba on Sunday.
Despite being flanked by two security guards on motorcycles, Rotich was tackled by a man mid-way through the race, but managed to fight him off with a quick spin move, before security apprehended the attacker.
Rotich was unfazed by the attack and went on to win the race by seven seconds.
Police said the attacked, who was arrested afterwards, has a history of psychiatric problems.
