KEY POINTS:
Carl Evans and Peter Burling have been added to Yachting New Zealand's (YNZ) Olympic squad.
Their inclusion, announced today, increases the likelihood of the two 16-year-olds appearing at next year's Olympic Games in Beijing.
Evans, of Auckland, and Burling, of Tauranga, earned entry into the squad after finishing sixth at the 470 European championships in Greece on Monday.
The Olympic squad are reviewed annually and inclusion is based on performance at key international events.
"Carl and Peter's result at the Europeans is amazing," YNZ's Olympics operations manager Leslie Egnot said.
"For such a young combination in their international 470 debut to finish sixth in a star studded fleet, including previous world champions and Olympic medallists, is fantastic.
"They both obviously have the talent to take them to great heights and I look forward to watching their progress."
Evans and Burling will join the New Zealand team to contest the Olympic test event, otherwise known as the Pre-Olympics, in Qingdao, China, in August.
