Kiwi yachties Gavin Brady and Jamie Gale are still among the medals in their debut at the Star worlds, despite a dismal day on Chesapeake Bay.
After leading the regatta in their quest for Olympic entry, Brady and Gale got stuck in the pack yesterday, finishing 52nd.
They dropped the result, but still fell from first to third.
With two to go, the New Zealanders look certain to get Olympic status with a top-20 finish.
In the 470s, the Kiwi Olympic crews had mixed results entering the final stage of the world championships in Hungary.
Simon Cooke and Peter Nicholas have moved up to seventh overall, but Melinda Henshaw and Jenny Egnot, who qualified second in the women's fleet, lost in the protest room after two placings in the deep 20s.
Skiff sailors Dan Slater and Nathan Handley remain Olympic medal hopes, finishing fifth in the first round of the world 49er grand prix circuit in France.
