New Zealand sailors Andrew Murdoch and Jo Aleh made impressive starts to the Kiel Regatta in Germany overnight, their last competition before the Olympic Games.
Murdoch notched a win and second place in qualifying rounds for the Laser to sit in second equal points. The leader is Gustavo Lima of Portugal with two wins.
The giant fleet of 154 boats has been split into three fleets.
Laser Radial sailor Aleh was 12th overall after the first day of the five-day regatta, having placed fourth and ninth in fine conditions with 12 knots of wind.
New Zealand 470 pair Geoff Woolley and Mark Overington kicked off the regatta with a win in their first race and a sixth in their second to be third overall.
