Ice racer Shane Dobbin is the first New Zealander selected for the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia next month.
Dobbin, who competed in the 5000m event at the Vancouver Games four years ago, has been selected in both the 5000 and 10,000m long track events in Sochi.
"You never quite get over that feeling of wearing the Silver Fern and Olympic rings on your chest, so now after all the training and hard work I get to relive those moments and hopefully improve on my 2010 performance," Dobbin said.
The qualification criteria meant Dobbin had to compete in 50 percent of the International Skating Union World Cup events over the 2013-14 season, then place in the top 50 percent in 50 percent of those events to win selection.
Palmerston North skater Dobbin, now based on the Gold Coast, finished sixth in the longer distance and 10th over 5000m at the last world championships. He was 17th in Vancouver.
