Valerie Adams the 800m runner? That's what she was able to convince a photographer before easing to another shotput victory at the Rome Diamond League meet.
Adams threw a season best of 19.69 metres overnight, 80 centimetres better than her nearest competitor. However Adams' main rivals, American Michelle Carter and German Christina Schwanitz have both skipped the meet.
Neither will compete at the Birmingham event this weekend, where Adams will line up once more.
Before the meet, Adams was asked by the media member which event she was to contest in and the two-time Olympic champion convinced the photographer that she was a runner.
Photographer: What do you do?
Adams: I'm a runner
Photographer: You're a runner?
Adams: Yeah, yeah, I'm a runner
Photographer: What do you do, which one?
Adams: 800 metres
Photographer: Wow! Fantastic.
