New Zealand's Bevan Docherty proved he is on course to challenge for a medal at the Athens Olympic Games by winning the London Triathlon this morning (NZ time).
Docherty recorded a winning time of one hour 46 minutes 18 seconds for the Olympic distance event incorporating a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
Fred Belaubre, of France, was second in 1hr 46min 29sec, with Briton Stuart Hayes third in 1hr 46min 43sec.
World champion Docherty was among the leading group after the cycling leg and used his speed on the run to power away from the field in the non-International Triathlon Union race.
After winning, he was full of praise for the work of New Zealand high performance manager Mark Elliot in their European training period over the last two months.
Docherty's Games teammates Hamish Carter and Nathan Richmond showed they were also in good form, finishing fourth and sixth respectively.
