KEY POINTS:
New Zealand table tennis player Karen Li has won the women's Olympic qualifying table tennis tournament held in New Caledonia.
Li beat fellow New Zealander Sun Yang in the quarterfinal 4-0 and Australia's Stephanie Sang 4-1 in the semifinals.
She proved too strong for Australian No 1 Miao Miao in the final, winning 11-9 11-3 11-4 11-4.
Her place in the New Zealand team to Beijing will now be considered by the NZ Olympic Committee.
Li has been training in China since the world championships last month for this qualification event and intends to return to China to train for the Olympics.
