KEY POINTS:
New Zealand will host a round of the marathon swimming world cup series next year. It will be held with the inaugural world age-group open-water championships in Wellington next April.
The marathon world cup is a fast-growing professional open-water circuit which has gained significance with the inclusion of the 10km open-water swim in the Beijing Olympic programme.
Organisers hope for more than 50 elite swimmers for the 10km event and more than 1000 age-group swimmers for distances from 2.5km to 10km.
