Australia's Olympic and world swimming champion Grant Hackett is to pull out of next year's Commonwealth Games.
Hackett's manager Brian Taylor would not confirm why Hackett had decided to pull out, although it is widely known that he has been troubled by a shoulder injury for the past year which requires surgery.
The champion swimmer had hinted he might take time off training to recharge his batteries before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He is hoping to become the first swimmer to win Olympic Gold in the 1500 metres event at three consecutive Games.
