Auckland swimmer Corey Main has gone under the Olympic qualifying standard in the 100m backstroke.
The Howick Pakuranga swimmer, who attends the University of Florida, clocked 54.27s at the Canadian trials in Toronto. The trials are the second approved event for New Zealand athletes to produce qualifying times for the Rio Games.
Main was third fastest in the heats. The Fina A time for the event is 54.36s. Main will contest the B final later today.
He is the only New Zealand swimmer so far to dip beneath a qualifying time at the trials.
There are 13 New Zealand swimmers competing in Toronto.
