Sonny Bill on the Rio Olympics: Everything is pretty much free

Show me the money? Not in the Olympic village, according to New Zealand sevens kingpin Sonny Bill Williams.

Williams says the sevens team has been able to settle in well and at very little cost.

"It's been pretty surreal cruising around - it's been good for the first two days, to pretty much chill and settle in. It's funny - everything is pretty much free," the All Blacks star reckoned.

"You see how fit (other athletes) are, they are hungry for success...I'm trying to use that as motivation, not get caught up in everything going on. We are here to try to win gold."

Among the 'fit' athletes Williams has seen around the village includes Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, of whom Williams tweeted a picture of alongside each other earlier this morning.

Williams also revealed he was not surprised that Jarryd Hayne, who is returning to the NRL, had not made the Fijian sevens team after quitting the NFL.

"I always knew it would be tough...it is a totally different game to 15s," said Williams.

"Hayne just needed time. A lot of 15s players tried to make the sevens teams this year, a lot haven't made it. It is a totally different game. That's why I'm thankful I could sit down with Titch (coach Gordon Tietjens) early in the year and plan to try and crack it."

Williams said he wanted to watch his sister play in the women's sevens tournament and support other New Zealand athletes, in particular Valerie Adams who is aiming for a third consecutive gold medal.
