Australian sevens star Pama Fou has had his Olympic dreams crushed after slipping in the shower.
Fou, one of Australia's best attacking weapons, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament stepping out of his shower at home on Wednesday and has been ruled out of action for nine months, ending his hopes of representing his country at the Rio Games in 49 days.
It is a bitter blow for the 25-year-old, who spent much of the year in rehabilitation for a shoulder injury but returned to top form in recent tournaments and would have been a certain selection for Rio if fit.
"We're all devastated for Pama," Australia's Sevens coach Andy Friend said.
"Clearly he is shattered himself and it is a bitter blow after the hard work he had put in during rehab following his shoulder injury.
