Sonny Bill Williams is back in New Zealand and is set to undergo surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon in Auckland on Tuesday,
It's understood leading Auckland surgeon Dr Bruce Twaddle will perform the operation on Williams who was pushed off his long haul flight back from South America this morning in a wheelchair by fellow All Black and sevens player Liam Messam.
Twaddle has operated on a number of top All Blacks in recent times. His return from the Rio Olympic sevens and the swift surgery arrangements underline how quickly the All Blacks brain trusts want Williams operated on.
Messam joked he returned early from Rio so Williams "has somebody to push the bro around" but added it was good to be back in New Zealand.
Williams suffered his injury in his first match in the Olympic rugby sevens tournament and is expected to be sidelined for six to nine months.
