KEY POINTS:
Professional rugby player or Olympics bound bobsledder?
That could be the choice for Otago winger Karne Hesketh, who has been revealed as the Air New Zealand Cup player trialling for the national bobsleigh team.
Hesketh will join eight other athletes at a bobsleigh training camp in Dunedin this weekend as organisers seek to find a squad to ultimately compete at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
The 22-year old could not be named with the rest of the team three weeks ago because of his rugby commitments.
Hesketh says he went to the initial trial with a nothing to lose attitude, but something which was initially a bit of fun has suddenly become more serious, although at this stage he can juggle both pursuits.
Hesketh says project co-ordinator Angus Ross, who also works with Otago rugby on various training techniques, suggested he try the bobsleigh and it has gone from there.
Hesketh says he has spoken to the Otago Rugby Union about it, and their view is that it could actually help his rugby, improving strength and speed.
