America's female gymnasts were the darlings of the Rio Olympics, dominating their competition on the way to an amazing haul of four gold, four silver and one bronze medal.
Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman were untouchable in the team's event, finishing 10 points clear of second-placed China. Their margin of victory was so wide the Chinese finished closer to last-placed Belgium then the first-ranked Americans.
Biles was the star, charging to victory in the individual all-around event ahead of Raisman, while also adding gold medals on the vault and floor exercise. It was complete domination.
Suddenly this pint-sized group of girls - which also included alternate Ragan Smith - were hot property. They were able to hit up everyone from LeBron James to Novak Djokovic for a photograph and given their small statures - Smith is 137cm, Biles is 142cm, Hernandez is 152cm and Douglas, Kocian and Raisman are 157cm - the pictures often illustrated the hilarious height difference between gymnasts and the rest of the world.
