Kiwi swimmer Corey Main's Olympic Games are over after he finished eighth in his semifinal and 14th overall in the 200m backstroke.
Teammate Bradlee Ashby also finished 14th overall in the 200m individual medley, after taking sixth in his semifinal.
Main's one minute 58.08 seconds at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium was well off the winning pace set by Russian Evgeny Rylov's 1:54.45.
Main had clocked his second personal best of the Olympics when he qualified 15th-fastest for the final with 1:57.51 in the morning heats.
The 21-year-old swimmer took 0.28sec off his previous best, just 0.36sec shy of Gareth Kean's national record.
