Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin have both slammed Olympic officials for scheduling the men's 100m final just one hour after the semi-finals of the event.
Speaking in his official press-conference after becoming the first man to win three-consecutive 100m Olympic finals, Bolt said the reason he never threatened his own world record of 9.58 seconds was that he and his rivals were all still tired from their previous runs.
Bolt hit the line with a time of 9.81 seconds to win the gold medal ahead of rival Gatlin (9.89 seconds) and Canada's Andre De Grasse (9.91 seconds).
It was the slowest men's 100m final since Gatlin won the gold in a time of 9.85 seconds at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
According to reports, Bolt slammed the scheduling of the event as both "stupid" and "ridiculous".
