Timaru Boys' High School are getting behind former student Tom Walsh as he competes for an Olympic gold medal.
Students at the school spelled out "Go Tom!" on the school field to show their support for the shot putter ahead of his final this morning.
Walsh, the current indoor world champion, graduated from Timaru Boys' High School in 2009, and will have a serious shot at claiming a medal after qualifying for the final with the second best throw in the field.
He will be joined in the final by young gun Jacko Gill, who qualified fourth-best.
It will be the first time two New Zealanders have competed side-by-side in the final of an Olympic track and field event since 1976.
