The New Zealand women's hockey team's victory over Australia finally put a much needed tick in the win column over our transtasman rivals at the Rio Olympics.
Not only do Australia sit well ahead on the medal tally (22 totals medals compared to New Zealand's eight) but the big cousins across the ditch also dominate the head-to-head match-ups.
It began on day three when shooter Natalie Rooney was pipped by Aussie Catherine Skinner in the gold medal match. Rooney was a surprise finalist but gave up a two-shot lead in the final before losing by a single point.
New Zealand's second silver was won by the women's rugby sevens team were pipped by tournament favourites Australia 24-17.
The eventing team was beaten for bronze by Australia while the men's hockey side lost to Australia in pool play.
