One of Great Britain's Olympic team has been held up at gunpoint during a night out in Rio, it has been reported.
The alleged incident in the early hours of Tuesday morning was said to have prompted warnings to Team GB members that leaving the Athletes Village was "not worth the risk" and that they should not do so wearing official kit.
The victim has not been named but was said to be in shock, with news of the ordeal having spread among the rest of the team.
Athletes were contacted by Team GB officials on Wednesday warning that "following a significant security incident overnight," they must follow a number of protocols, including not wearing Team GB kit out of the village and not taking taxis, the Guardian reported.
They were also warned in an e-mail to "avoid leaving the village after dark in anything other than British Olympic Association/Local Organising Committee/UK Athletics transport - taxis cannot be considered safe late at night. If you are planning on going out after dark and have no way of returning other than via taxi, do not go out".
