WARSAW, Poland (AP) The Polish city of Krakow is bidding to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games along with neighboring Slovakia.
The head of Poland's Olympic committee, Andrzej Krasnicki said a letter confirming the bid was sent Thursday to the International Olympic Committee, a week before the deadline. He made the announcement alongside Slovak counterpart Frantisek Chmelar.
Under the bid plans, Krakow and the Tatra mountain resort of Zakopane would host the ice events. The Alpine events would be held across the border, in Jasna, Slovakia.
Jasna is located about 150 kilometers (95 miles) from Krakow.
Neither country has hosted the Winter Olympics. Zakopane bid unsuccessfully for the 2006 Winter Games, while the Slovak resort of Poprad-Tatry failed in attempts for the 2002 and 2006 Games.
