KEY POINTS:
A pessimistic Kiwi has quickly taken on an Australian bookmaker offering odds on New Zealand winning fewer than nine medals at next year's Olympics in Beijing.
Sydney-based Sportsbook.com.au spokesman Howard Creagh said a A$5000 ($5780) bet from a regular New Zealand client had ben placed on the Kiwi Games team winning nine or fewer medals at odds of A$1.90, meaning he stands to make a profit of A$4500.
"We think the Kiwi punter's being a bit pessimistic," Creagh said. "
We've had a close look and I think the rowing team will pick up four medals, while triathlon, equestrian and yachting will also be strong, along with [world champion] Valerie Vili in the shot put."
