Burling and Tuke lock in silver
The men's 49er crew of Blair Tuke and Peter Burling pretty much locked in silver with a pair of 6th placings. They cannot catch the Australian duo of Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen and likewise should not be caught by the Danish pair of Allan Norregaard and Peter Lang. Andrew Murdoch finished 4th in the medal race and fifth overall. The men's 470 recorded a 7th and a 9th to sit 5th overall, just one point out of the bronze medal position. They have two fleet races and a medal race remaining. After 11 matches, New Zealand are 9th out of 12 teams in the Elliot.
Willis rival out, then back in
Sensation! One of Nick Willis' main rivals for the 1500m final Taoufik Makhloufi was ejected from the Games by the IAAF for not trying in his 800m heat. His Algerian association did not withdraw him in time so he lined up, ran 200m then stepped off the track to save himself for the 1500m final. Silver for Adams
Valerie Adams took out a silver after an superb performance from rival Nadzeya Ostapchuk who on four occasions threw further than Val's best. Wanganui-raised runner Lucy van Dalen qualified for the semifinals of the 1500m after running 4m 07.04s in the heats overnight.
