Twins Alvin and Calvin Harrison, whose lives have been riddled with tragedy, could create Olympic history and run together in Sydney.
The Californian brothers are in line to run in the 4 X 400m relay for the United States - the first time twins have run in the same race.
Before the 1996 Olympics, the pair were so poor they lived in an old car. Soon after the games, where Alvin ran fourth in the 400m final, their younger sister was murdered.
Calvin was temporarily paralysed in one foot a year later, and last year they were hit hard by the death of the grandmother who raised them.
At this week's US Olympic trials, Alvin finished second to Michael Johnson in the 400m, while Calvin was fifth - good enough to earn an invitation to the team's training camp in Brisbane.

New Zealand's Olympic yachties are taking extra precautions to make sure their boats are not washed away on the trip across the Tasman.
After reports of luxury boats and giant paper rolls being washed off container ships in recent weeks, Yachting New Zealand have changed their plans on getting their craft to Sydney.
Most of the team's yachts will be packed in a container today, to be stowed inside the ship, but originally they were to have been lashed to the deck on their trailers.
