Mark Todd's quest for a third Olympic gold medal got off to a good start when his horse Campino was passed fit to compete in tonight's (NZT) show jumping of the three-day eventing competition.
The trot up can be a nervous time, with horses often deemed lame and eliminated from the competition. All of the New Zealand horses were passed fit, as well as those of their main competitors.
Todd lies in third in the individual competition, 0.2 points behind Germany's Ingrid Klimke and Sweden's Sara Algotsson Ostholt. A dropped rail equates to four penalties.
The New Zealand team are fourth but less than four points separates second and fourth.
The first round of showing jumping is due to get under way at 9.30pm (NZT) and counts towards both the team's and individual standings. The second round, featuring the top 25 riders, starts at 1.30am and will decide the individual medals.
