Any city hosting the Olympics, and the intense media scrutiny that goes with it, can always benefit from the mistakes of past Games hosts.
From one of Atlanta's shortcomings, Sydney has learned the importance of accommodating one of the most important groups within the Olympic family - accredited media - in a place that is close to the action.
Sydney's purpose-built media village at Lidcombe does just that, keeping its occupants within 15 minutes of the main Olympic precinct at Homebush.
Built on the site of an old hospital, it will be home to 5883 of the expected 17,600 accredited media in Sydney.
And for the privilege of staying there, media organisations will pay between $200 and $300 a night for each of their representatives.
