Kiwi Daniel Jocelyn's Olympic horse, hurt when he toppled backwards on to his shoulder, is surprising vets with his rapid recovery.
Silence has been given another week to prove his fitness for Sydney before the herd of British-based eventing horses go into quarantine to be flown to Australia.
A Kiwi vet visited Jocelyn in England last weekend to check out the horse, which had suffered vertebrae damage and a nasty wound in the stable mishap. The check-up found the injury is healing faster than expected.
New Zealand eventing selectors have not nominated which horse will replace Silence if he isn't up to scratch, but say they have 17 horses to choose from. One of the frontrunners would be Olympian Vaughn Jefferis' second horse, Curious George.
