Most of New Zealand's sailing contingent struggled to post strong results on the water at the London Olympics overnight.
Dan Slater in the Finn class has made his run at the medal round close after finishes of sixth and 15th. With two races left in the schedule he sits in eighth place overall and needs to be in the top 10 to progress.
Previously New Zealand's best-performing sailors, Peter Burling and Blair Turk dropped to third overall in the 49er class after finishes of ninth and 11th today.
Similarly, the men's Star team of Hamish Pepper and Jim Turner posted finishes of 10th and eighth and now sit in seventh place overall with two races to come.
The women's Elliott 6m team lost both their match races today, firstly to France, then to Finland. They sit in eighth place overall and need to stay there to qualify for the finals.
