KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) had to pay $400 to a Beijing nightclub after an athlete shattered a glass dance floor while celebrating the team's medal haul.
The nightclub had to be closed for safety reasons after the sportsperson dropped a drink, causing damage to the high-tech glass dance floor, the Sunday News reported.
NZOC spokeswoman Ashley Abbott said the incident had been investigated at the time, but officials were unable to pinpoint who was responsible for shattering the dance floor.
"At the close of competition in Beijing, approximately 30 members of the New Zealand Olympic team from a variety of sports went to a Beijing bar," Abbott said.
"A glass was accidentally dropped or knocked on to a glass dance floor.
"The floor was damaged and as a result, that part of the bar was closed for safety reasons.
"It is unclear who was responsible for this."
But Sunday News said it was told a high-profile competitor, who can't be named for legal reasons, caused the damage.
