New Zealand's Olympic sailing campaign is off to a slow start after mixed results on the water on day one of action.
The men's Star pairing of Hamish Pepper and Jim Turner finished 15th and seventh in their first two races to sit in 13th place overall while the women's Elliott team of Jenna Hansen, Stephanie Hazard and Susannah Pyatt won one of their two match races to lie mid-table in their competition.
In the men's Finn class, Dan Slater finished seventh then 11th in his races - well behind second-placed British gold medal hope Ben Ainslie.
Ainslie finished second to Denmark's Jonas Hoegh-Christensen in the first two races of 10 in the competiton total. Croatia's Ivan Gaspic was third in both races and is third overall with six points.
Ainslie is trying to win his fourth straight gold medal, and fifth straight overall, which would make him the most successful Olympic sailor ever.
