New Zealand results on day seven of the Athens Olympics (Friday/Saturday NZ time):

Athletics: men's 1500m heats, Nick Willis 3min 39.80sec 3rd (qualified for semifinals), women's discus qualifying, Beatrice Faumuina 64.07m 3rd (qualified for final), men's 10,000m, John Henwood DNF, women's 5000m, Kimberley Smith 15:31.80 14th.

Basketball: women's preliminaries, New Zealand bt China 79-77. Halftime: 35-31. New Zealand: Gina Farmer 19, Donna Loffhagen 18, Aneka Kerr 17, Angela Marino 13, Megan Compain 12.

Equestrian: individual dressage (after 26 of 52 riders), Louisa Hill and Gabana 62.708 per cent 24th.

Hockey: women's preliminaries, New Zealand lost to Argentina 0-3. Halftime: 0-1.

Sailing: Europe, Sarah Macky 10th and 5th (6th overall after race 10), Laser, Hamish Pepper DNF and 2nd (9th after 10 races), men's Mistral, Tom Ashley 14th and 8th (12th after six races), women's Mistral, Barbara Kendall 5th (9th after six races)

Shooting: men's 50m rifle prone qualifying, Ryan Taylor 589 out of 600 points, 36th equal.

Swimming: women's 50m freestyle heats, Alison Fitch 26.56sec 2nd (34th overall), men's 1500m freestyle heats, Moss Burmester 15:56.42 4th (28th overall), women's 4 x 100m medley heats, Hannah McLean, Annabelle Carey, Liz Coster and Fitch 4:10.37 6th (13th overall), men's 4 x 100m medley heats, Scott Talbot-Cameron, Ben Labowitch, Corney Swanepoel and Cameron Gibson 3:42.74 7th (11th overall).
